Benefit of Living Close to the Land

Just took a nice long walk down the dusty dirt road that leads to our house and logged my 14th mile for the week~ half of this week’s miles logged indoors on the chilly days and half of them outdoorsIt’s the ones that I get to do outdoors that lift my spirits the most.  Today as I walked, my backside was bathed in the warm sunshine.  During the first few minutes of my walk, I was struck by the soothing quiet that surrounded me and cleared the way for my mind to wander.  About a mile into my stroll I surprised three wild turkeys that heard me coming.  They ran from the Roanoke River side of the road to a field and tree line on the other side to take cover.  Treasure hunter that I am, I also picked up several cool rocks and a piece of metal from an old chain.  I consider this a morning well spent and one of the great benefits of living “close to the land.”  Wish I had taken my camera~
