Carolina Carol on Food and Farm Life
Carolina Carol ♦ December 30, 2011 ♦ 19 Comments
For nearly 30 years now, I have been building my collection of authentic recipes and gathering family stories which reflect our unique way of life in Eastern North Carolina. My family stories are those of rural families that have historically produced much of what they ate. My recipe collection is largely comprised of recipes passed down through generations or lovingly shared between family and close friends.
For the past several years, I have been weaving both my stories and my recipes into a cookbook which I hope will provide a glimpse of rural life in Eastern North Carolina. Though I am not quite finished with my cookbook, I have decided that I want to begin to “talk” food with those, like me, who love the idea of time-honored traditions and ways of growing, preserving and preparing authentic food.
If you are reading this, my first attempt at blogging on this topic, I would love to hear from you. I am looking forward to sharing my perspective on food as well as learning from you about your ideas on food. Here’s to spirited conversation about food, family and rural life … what are your thoughts along these lines?

Hi Carol, what a wonderful idea…my friend. Looking forward to all the post that will occur on your “foodie” blog 🙂

Go, Carol! This should be fun…I’m bookmarking you now!
What a great idea and what a great project to begin a new year. I’m sure your efforts will result in “beautiful success.” I will be looking forward to seeing and getting a copy of your recipe book.
Best Wishes and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Anne
Thanks Anne~ I greatly appreciate your support 🙂
Carol, I like your idea and look forward to more information concerning food and good recipes. I enjoy good eastern NC food. Better to share them with Lynn rather then me as she is the better cook. Good luck. I do have a recipe that I cook for us and she loves which I will share with you. Bud
Thanks for your response Bud. I know that Lynn is a good cook and she has shared several recipes with me which I treasure. Now I will look forward to getting yours as well 🙂
Good luck with the blog! I’ll keep reading.
Thanks Susan … I’ll try to send you a little bit of “home” 🙂
Hey! okay here’s a comment..let’s see if it works.
Thanks for your persistence. Hope that the “follow” option popped up after your comment. Since I am “in the wordpress system,” I am not sure if what we see is the same. Tomorrow I will try to see what happens from someone’s computer that isn’t a wordpress subscriber. Thanks for all your efforts. We will figure this thing out. I will get back to you 🙂
Hi Deborah~ I want to try to work through our issues to get connected. Wanted to send you an inbox message on the NC Culture FB site but couldn’t find that option. Decided to reply to your message here. Since my blog is about Eastern NC Culture, I would like to be linked to your NC Culture FB page. Can you advise me as to what I need to do? Thanks for your guidance here 🙂
Hey: best I know, you have to have a FB business page. I can’t link up personal pages (reason I can’t get that fishing report out of Morehead. Are you trying to drive more attention to your blog? I’m kind of new at this, too..to be honest, it’s easier if you have a fb page (business), then I can share directly and you can direct people to your blog from there. Obx surf info and a couple of others do this, so I guess it’s standard practise? with the obx blog, I had to subscribe, but since NC Culture on FB has my email address, it comes directly to me. I just emailed w/them today asking about how to handle info on page that I wanted to put up (they don’t have surf report on FB page), and they suggested just copying link when I go to blog and putting it up. I don’t mind doing that, but it is time-consuming for me, and only truly beneficial for them (although it’s beneficial for me in that I have the current surf info!). I can do it either way, as I’d love to have your posts. Have you thought about doing a fb business page? It does’t actually have to be a business (we aren’t for sure!)..you just have to list it that way, so that you can link to your own page, and others can link to you..then you can direct to blog. Many of our links are actuall blogs that use FB to generae traffic, best I can tell..the real info is on the blog, and they use FB to direct traffic there. Does this help? You can call me if you’d like: 919 270 3371…several of the people I have linked have been nice enough to answer questions for me, so I have no problem helping you with what I do know, which is basically what I have learned thru trial and error, and a few hints from other sites!..Deb
I FINALLY MADE! THis looks really nice, Mom. I vow to pop in as life allows! Love you! Brandy
Glad that you got to check it out. Appreciate your thoughts on it. Love you too~ Mom
Carol: want to clarify a little better..Please give me a call or send me your phone number, okay?
